KIS record 2016/17 - Notification log

This document summarises all communications associated with the 2016/17 KIS collection, from first publication of known changes to the record through to collection closure in July 2017. Please refer to the Revision history document for full technical list of changes to the specifications.

HESA issue regular communications during the life of a collection:

• Circulars: announcements to interested parties concerning or issues relating to the collection. Circulars are always made available on the HESA website for later reference, and emailed out to the mailgroup for the collection.
• Coding manual release overviews: these document iterative changes to the technical documentation that define the form of the data to be submitted, as well as being a place to host resources associated with collecting that data.

2017-07-13 Coding manual release - version 1.11

Several changes have been made for Accrediting body 095, the Institution of Engineering Designers (IED) in the Accreditation information table.

2017-06-22 Coding manual release - version 1.10

A new version of the Unistats output schema (including TEF changes) to be used from 2017-06-22 onwards, has been released.

The Unistats dataset file structure and description table has been amended to reflect changes made to the TEF.

2017-04-06 Coding manual release - version 1.9

• The ACCTYPE texts have been amended for ACCTYPEs 04601, 02701 and 03501 in the Accreditation information table. Additionally, new ACCTYPE 20101 has been added to the table.
• KISAIM 177 has been added to the List of KIS Course Aims.

2016-10-27 Coding manual release - version 1.8

• The URL for ACCTYPE 16401 relating to the Bar Standards Board has been amended in the Accreditation information table.
• ACCTYPEs 10701 and 10702 have been removed from the Accreditation information table.

2016-09-20 Coding manual release - version 1.7

• ACCTYPE 20001 has been added to the Accreditation information table.
• KISAIMs 175-176 have been added to the List of KIS Course Aims.

2016-08-10 Coding manual release - version 1.6

• Accreditation.ACCTYPE has been amended to inform that the application window for new ACCTYPEs has closed for 2016/17.
• ACCTYPEs 00101 - 00104 have been amended in the Accreditation information table.
• KISAIMs 173 and 174 have been added to the List of KIS Course Aims.
• Additional information has been added to the Unistats 2016/17 description table in the Unistats dataset file structure and description.

2016-06-16 Coding manual release - version 1.5

• Apprenticeship standards added to the list of courses for which a KIS should not be returned in the Coverage of the record.
• KISAIMs 171-172 have been added to the List of KIS Course Aims.
• The Unistats output schema no longer requires the return of TEF status.

2016-05-26 Coding manual release - version 1.4

• Several amendments have been made to the Accreditation information table.
• KISAIM 170 has been added to the List of KIS Course Aims.

2016-05-05 Coding manual release - version 1.3

The following documentation has been updated and added to the coding manual:

• The Accreditation information table and guidance on Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Bodies (PSRBs) and course accreditation,
• The List of KIS Course Aims, under the KISCourse.KISAIM field,
• The Unistats dataset file structure and description,
• The Unistats output schema.

2016-03-31 Coding manual release - version 1.2

The Submission process and quality assurance section of the default page has been released and raised to give greater prominence to the documents necessary to return a KIS.

The following documentation has been updated and added to the coding manual:

• The Quality rules,
• The HESA XML data entry tool,
• The guidance on how to use the HESA XML data entry tool,
• The Validation overview,
• The Download validation kit,
• The Publication arrangements documentation,
• The Unistats widget user guide.

Guidance in Types of KIS amended to communicate that a combination of KISTYPEs 1 and 3 can be returned for KISTYPE 2 courses.

Guidance for KISCourse.HESACOURSEID amended to clarify that, for 2016/17 onward, APs can be included in the KIS record.

Guidance has been removed from Fees fields, due to NHS bursaries no longer being available from 2017.

2016-03-04 Coding manual release - version 1.1

The following documentation has been updated and added to the coding manual:

• The Data collection schedule,
• The Data requirements for new courses,
• The guidance relating to the inclusion of NSS and DLHE data,
• The guidance relating to Accommodation costs, linked to from the relevant data items,
• The Fees and support, added under the associated data items that it relates to,
• The Field summary by KISTYPE,
• The Years to which fields relate,
• The Collaborative provision document.

2016-01-07 Coding manual release - version 1.0

Version 1.0 of the coding manual includes the first release of documentation for KIS 2016/17.

Guidance changes have been made to the data items which relate to fees, clarifying how to return course fees in the instance where these haven't been announced yet at the provider.

Further guidance has been added to the URL fields detailing that providers should return these at course level, where applicable and where the information displayed on these pages may differ across courses.

Additional guidance has been added to further publicise that the KIS collection allows providers to resubmit their data at any point during the collection. Providers are encouraged to update their data submissions throughout the year if there are any changes or inaccuracies to generate more accurate output.
