Unistats record 2017/18 - Notification log

This document summarises all communications associated with the 2017/18 Unistats collection, from first publication of known changes to the record through to collection closure in July 2018. Please refer to the Revision history document for full technical list of changes to the specifications.

HESA issue regular communications during the life of a collection:

• Circulars: announcements to interested parties concerning or issues relating to the collection. Circulars are always made available on the HESA website for later reference, and emailed out to the mailgroup for the collection.
• Coding manual release overviews: these document iterative changes to the technical documentation that define the form of the data to be submitted, as well as being a place to host resources associated with collecting that data.

2018-08-09 Coding manual release - version 1.15

The following ACCTYPE 09405 has been updated in the Accreditation information table.

2018-07-27 Coding manual release - version 1.14

The following ACCTYPEs 02201, 13901, 18801 have been updated in the Accreditation information table.

KISAIMs 185, 186, 187 and 188 have been added to the List of KIS Course Aims lookup table.

2018-07-05 Coding manual release - version 1.13

The Unistats output schema has been updated to account for the inclusion of LEO data.

Also, in this release the following changes have made to the Accreditation information table.

• Accrediting body name and URL for ACCTYPE 01701 and 16601 has been changed.
• ACCTYPEs 01106 and 01107 have been removed.

• KISAIM 184 has been added to the List of KIS Course Aims lookup table.

2018-03-12 Coding manual release - version 1.11

• ACCTYPES 20301 has been added in the Accreditation information table.

2018-01-25 Coding manual release - version 1.10

• NSS.Q3 to NSS.Q22 have been updated in the Unistats dataset file structure and description table to correctly align the questions to the NSS questionnaire.

2018-01-16 Coding manual release - version 1.9

• KISAIM 183 has been added to the List of KIS Course Aims lookup table.

2017-11-15 Coding manual release - version 1.8

The following documentation has been updated and added to the coding manual:

• Guidance has been amended to KISCourse.SANDWICH, to clarify placements that split across years.
• Unistats dataset file structure and description and the Unistats output schema have been updated with the 'new course' flag elements known as 'Unavailability reason'.
• KISAIM 182 has been added to the List of KIS Course Aims lookup table.

2017-10-26 Coding manual release - version 1.7

• KISAIM 181 has been added to the List of KIS Course Aims lookup table.
• KISAIM 180 has been removed from the List of KIS Course Aims lookup table.
• The URL for ACCTYPEs 12801, 12802 have been amended in the Accreditation information table.
• The following ACCTYPEs 01601, 15701, 20101 have been renamed in the Accreditation information table.

2017-10-12 Coding manual release - version 1.6

• KISAIM 179 has been added to the List of KIS Course Aims lookup table.
• Unistats dataset file structure and description table has been updated.
• The URL for ACCTYPEs 02701, 00901, 05801, 05802 have been amended in the Accreditation information table.

2017-09-13 Coding manual release - version 1.5

Version 1.5 of the coding manual includes changes to the schema for the URLdatatype. This has been amended to enforce double slashes (//) when entering website addresses.

2017-07-27 Coding manual release - version 1.4

The following documentation has been updated and added to the coding manual:

• KISAIM 178 has been added to the List of KIS Course Aims lookup table.
• The Unistats output schema and Unistats dataset file structure and description table have been updated to include NSS questions 23 to 27 and removed NSS Q24 and related fields (Q24RESP_RATE and Q24POP) from the Institution level as this question is now treated the same as the other questions.

2017-06-13 Coding manual release - version 1.3

The following documentation has been updated and added to the coding manual:

• List of KIS Course Aims KISCourse.LEVEL column has been deleted from KIS Course Aims table.
• KISCourse.NUMSTAGE - Further guidance has been added to this data field to clarify the length of a course when a component of the course is optional or compulsory i.e sandwich or year abroad.
• ACCTYPEs 09504, 09507, 09508, 09509, 09511 have been deleted in the Accreditation information table.
• ACCTYPES 09513 and 09514 have been added in the Accreditation information table.
• The 'accreditation type text' for 09510 ACCTYPE has been amended to include the word 'academic' in the Accreditation information table.
• The URL and accreditation name has been changed to for ACCTYPE 039.
• The Unistats widget user guide.
• The guidance relating to the inclusion of NSS and DLHE data.

2017-04-06 Coding manual release - version 1.2

The following documentation has been updated and added to the coding manual:

• The Accreditation information table, including any new entries,
• The Collaborative provision guidance document,
• The List of KIS course aims,
• The Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Bodies (PSRBs) and course accreditation guidance,
• The Quality rules,
• A link to the Unistats dataset,
• The Unistats dataset file structure and description,
• The Unistats output schema.

Additionally, a link has been added to all URL fields, providing further information on what is expected to be submitted in these fields.

2017-03-07 Coding manual release - version 1.1

The following documentation has been updated and added to the coding manual:

• The Data collection schedule.
• The Data requirements for new courses.
• The Years to which fields relate.
• The Publication arrangements documentation.
• The HESA XML data entry tool.
• The guidance on how to use the HESA XML data entry tool.
• The Download validation kit.
• Also, the Summary of findings from KIS audits document produced by OfS has been added under 'Supporting documentation'.

2017-01-06 Coding manual release - version 1.0

As announced in the 2017 notification of changes, the KIS collection has now been renamed to Unistats. These changes have been implemented in the guidance and title of the data collection.

Version 1.0 of the coding manual includes the first release of documentation for Unistats record 2017/18 the schema, field specifications and guidance as well as the changes announced previously for this collection in the Notification of changes for C17061.
