HE-BCI: Re-stated figures consultation analysis

Overview of consultation

An online consultation link was provided to 488 HESA IDS contacts who either held the HE-BCI Record Contact or HE-BCI Submitter role. It is worthy to note that there may be circumstances in which an individual holds both roles simultaneously and therefore the number of individuals invited to respond to the consultation may be less than 488 due to duplicated invitations.

The consultation was hosted used Citizen Space online and comprised of 12 questions. These are shown below alongside the options for response:

Analysis of responses

Purpose of consultation

The main purpose of the consultation was to gain feedback from providers on the following two proposed amendments to the use of re-stated figures in the HE-BCI data collection. These amendments are:

1.    Removal of option to re-state figures from Tables 1, 2, 3, and 4

2.    Label amended:

Feedback

45 responses were submitted to the online consultation. Whilst 28 respondents (62.22%) stated they found the display of previously submitted figures as either ‘useful’ or ‘very useful’, however 32 respondents (71.11%) stated they are ‘not likely at all’ to review and re-state previously submitted figures.

32 respondents (71.11%) supported the first proposed removal of the option to re-state figures in tables 1, 2, 3 and 4 of the HE-BCI data collection. 34 respondents (75.56%) stated they did not believe there were any suitable alternatives amendments.

32 respondents (71.11%) supported the proposed amendments to labels, with 25 respondents (55.56%) stating the suggested text as being ‘clear’ or ‘very clear’. 37 respondents (82.22%) stated they did not believe there were any suitable alternatives amendments.

Outcome

The above data demonstrates a support for the proposed amendments to the presentation of previously submitted figures and option to re-state these in the HE-BCI data collection. Providers have stated they find the display of previously submitted figures useful for their own purposes and support the removal of the option to re-state these. Furthermore, they believe the proposed label wording to be clear and sufficient.
