Student record 2016/17 (C16051): Annual update - ITT outcomes

Following the recent announcement of changes for the Student record 2016/17, this document contains more of the technical details for the new items and changes, for those changes made as a result of the Initial Teacher Training record review. For further details on the review, please see the recent ITT review. A full manual will be released in April/May 2016.

ITT Qualification Aim

Description  This field holds only the general qualification aim of the programme in terms of both qualifications and professional statuses. 
Applicable to  England
Coverage    All ITT courses (TTCID = 1 or Q) 
Valid entries and labels
  • 201 Professional status only
  • 202 Both professional status and academic award
  • 203 Professional status by assessment only route
Notes  Code 203 Professional status by Assessment Only Route is applicable to providers that have been accredited by 'Assessment Only Route' courses. However, NTCL expect all Assessment Only Route trainees to be recorded on their NTCL DMS system.
Reason required  To monitor provision and to allow the NTCL to accurately record the relevant qualification.

Placement school

Type Field

Description This fields describes a school where a trainee is undertaking a placement
Applicable to England
Coverage All Placement school entities
Valid entries and labels Unique Reference Numbers (URNs), as shown on Edubase 
Notes                                             

Training programmes are designed to provide trainee teachers with sufficient time being trained in schools, early years and/or further education settings to enable them to demonstrate that they have met all the standards for QTS. This means they would typically be structured to include at least the following periods of time to be spent in training in schools, early years or further education settings:

  • A four year undergraduate programme - 160 days (32 weeks)
  • A one, two or three year undergraduate programme - 120 days (24 weeks)
  • A secondary graduate (non-salaried) programme - 120 days (24 weeks)
  • A primary graduate (non-salaried) programme - 120 days (24 weeks)
  • A salaried programme - As determined by the training programme.

Number of days spent in placement school

Description This fields describes the number of days spent at a particular placement school
Applicable to England

Notes                                              Training programmes are designed to provide trainee teachers with sufficient time being trained in schools, early years and/or further education settings to enable them to demonstrate that they have met all the standards for QTS.
