Notes to tables - Destinations of Leavers 2010/11

  1. Leavers of indeterminate gender are included in total figures and percentage calculations but not in separate gender breakdowns.

  2. Leavers of unknown age are included in total figures and percentage calculations but not in separate age breakdowns.

  3. Percentage of known destination excludes those who replied to the survey but explicitly refused to give information, and is expressed as a percentage of all students from whom a destination of leavers record was expected.

  4. Analyses of subject information show Full Person Equivalents (FPE). These are derived by splitting student instances between the different subjects that make up their qualification aim.

  5. Total England includes students who are known to be England domiciled but whose exact England region of domicile is unknown. Total postgraduate, first degree and other undergraduate include students who are known to be UK domiciled but whose exact region of domicile is unknown.

  6. Total England includes UK domiciled leavers who are known to be employed in England but whose exact England region of employment is unknown.

  7. Response rate includes those that replied to the survey but explicitly refused to give information, and is expressed as a percentage of all students from whom a destination of leavers record was expected.

    • The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama changed to Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
    • The University of Teesside changed to Teesside University
    • Thames Valley University changed to The University of West London
    • UHI Millennium Institute changed to University of the Highlands and Islands
    • University of Wales Institute, Cardiff changed to Cardiff Metropolitan University
    • The University of Wales Lampeter merged with Trinity University College and subsequently changed its name to University of Wales Trinity Saint David.
  18. University of London is a confederal organisation. The colleges of the university, shown separately in the HESA reference volumes, are:

  19. For 2010/11 the option ‘I do not wish to give that information’ was removed from the telephone script when asking about a leaver’s salary. The resulting effect of this change was an overall increase in the percentage disclosing salary information.

  20. Aberystwyth University omitted 30 Doctorate and 72 Postgraduate taught students from the survey population due a miscoding of end date data in the HESA Student record.

  21. The University of Greenwich reported that 50 MPharm (first degree students in Pharmacy) were included in the survey population in error. This has affected response rates for The University of Greenwich and Pharmacy.
